Route Overview

The route for this walk (actually estimated at 12.3 miles) starts at the New Brunswick train station, a major stop along the NJ Transit and Amtrak lines on the Northeast Corridor rail service. There is good train service, bus alternatives and parking neaby.  After a short walk north across the Raritan River where the trail picks up the East Coast Greenway north-eastward into the town of Highland Park along Rt 27 which is Raritan Ave at this point. About a mile into the walk, turn right at the intersection of Woodbridge Ave (Rt 514) and head on Rt 514. This is a straight-away for about 8 miles or so until you pass Rt 440/287.

This trail along Rt 514 Woodbridge Ave is a well-travelled street with sidewalk access and occasionally marked with the East Coast Greenway Trail blazes. After you pass under Rt 440/287, follow the turning directions to stay on course. You'll travel through some neighborhoods and cross over Rt1 on a huge pedestrian bridge. Shortly after the bridge is Roosevelt Park, an area favorite with a couple of interesting sculptures. Once through Roosevelt Park you have an option of going to the Edison Monument on the hill across from the Metropark rail station. They are in variious stages of rebuilding the site and we will post the current status prior to the event date.
