FreeWalkers to Walk Across New Jersey Again in 2012 on the East Coast Greenway

The FreeWalkers and the East Coast Greenway invite the Public to Walk the 100-mile Cross-Jersey Walking Challenge in 2012 - Starting with the “Great Canal Walk” on April 7th. Hoping to repeat and expand the Cross-Jersey Walking Challenge in 2012, the FreeWalkers are offering, for the second year in a row, a challenge to the public to walk across New Jersey in 2012. The program consists of walking 100 miles across the entire state – from Trenton to New York City within the next 12 months.

THE WALK BETWEEN YESTERDAY AND TODAY

The public is invited to walk along the East Coast Greenway Trail from New Brunswick to Metropark, Iselin on April 19th. The event encourages walking as common exercise for fun, fitness and as a means to support public trails. It’s an urban/suburban walk on sidewalk and park paths through the bustling towns and neighborhoods of Middlesex County, with a brief history lesson of this area and how this area has served the nation.

Walk Ten Miles+ between New Brunswick and Iselin

Join in on this flat 12.3-mile walk between New Brunswick and Metropark in Iselin on Saturday, April 16th along the East Coast Greenway (Hence, the name "Tween Walk"). Its an urban/suburban walk on sidewalk along some fairly busy roads, through the bustling town of Highland Park and older neighborhoods in Edison. We walk down Woodbridge Avenue passing in front of Middlesex County College. The trail goes through the interesting and popular Roosevelt Park as you get close to Metropark. This walk just may uncover some curious parts of Wierd NJ.

Few indeed are those who can walk through the Garden State's spectacular natural areas and not want to see more land saved. This spring, let the land speak to you: Join the Cross-Jersey Walking Challenge! The Cross-Jersey Walking Challenge invites people to walk 100 miles across the state - from Trenton to New York City. The idea springs from a partnership between the FreeWalkers (www.freewalkers.org), a long distance walking group, and the East Coast Greenway Alliance (www.greenway.org). Accept the Challenge and you can join any - or all - of three group walks along different sections of the trail, or complete the 100 miles at your own pace and schedule. Each section of the Cross-Jersey Challenge has its own website, complete with routes, maps, descriptions and frequently asked questions.

Taking a Jersey Hike - Walking Trenton to New Brunswick

Sections of Maine-Florida Greenway trail links cities, landmarks for trekkers, bikers. This Saturday 4/9/11, the FreeWalkers group will begin walking from Trenton and expect to walk 40 miles reached New Brunswick by the end of the day. The Trenton to New Brunswick 40, or TR2NB40, is one of three walks planned this month and in May along the 100-mile, Trenton-to-Jersey City stretch of the East Coast Greenway. Next up, on 4/16, is the Tween Walk from New Brunswick to Metropark, Iselin.

Union County Welcomes East Coast Greenway Walkers on “The Big Walk”

Cranford, NJ - Union County Freeholder Bette Jane Kowalski and Cranford Finance Commissioner Ed O’Malley, along with otherofficials, gave over 60 participants in “The Big Walk” event a rousing welcome at the Cranford Train Station on Saturday, May 21, 2011. The walkers, following the East Coast Greenway trail, passed through Cranford en route to the day’s final destination, New York City after starting the day at the Metropark Train Station in Iselin.

Monmouth County Extends Summer for Long Distance FreeWalkers

Asbury Park, NJ - The FreeWalkers, a social network of long-distance walkers, aims to extend the summer of 2011 for another ten days. Their plan is to walk 30 miles near the coast from Matawan to Asbury Park on Saturday, October 1, 2001, along trails, sidewalks and boardwalk . It's a time when Summer still lingers in the air and the beaches and scenery are peaceful and welcoming. The event is FREE, open to the public and supports Friends of the Parks.

It’s an urban/suburban walk on sidewalk and park paths through the bustling towns and neighborhoods of Middlesex County, marked by a lessons in the history of this area.
